This bundle of 5 lessons introduces learners to various key fundamental topics. We start by looking at entrepnreneurs to excite and engage the new student cohort. Followed by a lesson on taking risks - exciting activities here for students to weigh up the upsides and downsides of various predicaments they may find themselves in. A third lesson on adding value, we look at key concepts in adding value, students then add value to their t shirts. A fourth lesson on aims and objectives and finally opportunity cost. Quite large bundle for the first part of the spec, however all key stuff to get the students engaged from the very beginning and familiar with exam technique. Colourful, concise and engaging slides! This lesson introduces learners to the contents and purpose of a business plan, we discuss the sections of a plan, we then go on to look at an infamous example of what it shouldn’t be like in Solomon’s plan presented to Claude Littner in the Apprentice. A 3 mark question with a model answer, a few short tasks before going onto creating a business plan in groups, a template has been provided. Students present back their plans to the class and the class are provided with a sheet to write WWW and EBI with their peers presentations. A group task where they match parts of the business plan to the different areas of the business plan - answers included. Colourful, concise and engaging slides! Thank you

Critical path analysis - A Level Business

This double lesson introduces learners to critical path analysis, quite a tricky concept to understand at first for a lot of students - but not with this powerpoint. We start with an engaging starter to contextualise the topic, then we break down the elements of the critical path such as node, EST LFT, activities and durations so that we can see how it is built. Guidance is displayed step by step how to work out EST and LFT. Students have opportunities to practice completing and calculating critical path analysis, including working out the EST and LFTs, float times and the critical path. A kahoot quiz with a link to consolidate the first lesson’s learning. We then look at the advantages and disadvantages of CPA, followed by a concise case study on the usefulness of using CPA (questions can either be calculations or essay based so both are covered here). Structure guidance and a concise model answer is given to help students improve their exam technique. A group task to construct a more challenging CPA and a box plenary to end with. This double lesson introduces learners to supply and the factors which influence it. We start by looking at why suppliers supply, once students grasp it is for the incentive of profit we look at examples which can affect supply. We then go on to illustrate these impacts on diagrams with shifts in the supply curve - all broken down so students can grasp it quickly. We then have two four mark questions, both with concise case studies on a car manufacturer and the supply of houses, guidance on the assessment objectives required and concise model answers for students to look at when peer assessing. We look at the factors that can affect sales forecasting before considering the pros and cons of predicting sales. We start with a recap of PED as knowledge of this needs to be secure before moving onto YED to prevent future confusion. We look what YED measures, the formula and the different types of goods that exist such as inferior and luxury goods. Learners are introduced to various pricing strategies that are used by businesses with their pros and cons. Statements are shown on screen and students must recall the strategy identified to consolidate knowledge. This set of resources (1x PPT and 8x word docs) can be delivered over 3-4 lessons and introduces learners to the importance of business planning with an emphasis on cash flow forecasting. We start by looking at what’s included in a business plan and the purpose of creating one, a group matching cards activity to consolidate the contents of the business plan. We then go on to looking at the importance of a positive cash flow, and how to construct a cash flow forecast from scratch step by step (although this isn’t required it helps understand the topic well). Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed. This is followed by 2 x 12 mark questions, one on business planning and one on cash flow forecasting based on Ian Beale’s forecast.
